International Volunteer Day

Wednesday 05 December

Ever wondered what it would be like to volunteer at the Museum?? Be a part of the behind the scenes action?? Come on in on International Volunteer Day and we can let you in on all the secrets 😉

International Volunteer Day was established by UN Volunteers in 1985 and is celebrated every year on December 5. This is a day to show our appreciation for the volunteers in Aotearoa and around the world who keep our communities strong and thriving.

This year’s theme, ‘Building resilient communities’ acknowledges the vital and ongoing role volunteers play in society. The theme gives us reason enough to value the sector. Support is also important, and the second arm of the theme voices that: ‘Grow volunteers’. This includes investing time in volunteering, and for the wider population, viewing the sector with credibility and encouraging others to get involved.

Let’s use this opportunity to celebrate and recognise volunteers for the invaluable work they do, here and abroad.
